Certification is a natural extension of company’s mission to help address global food production and climate change challenges

Locus Agricultural Solutions Becomes One of the First Ag Input Suppliers Globally to Receive B Corp Certification

SOLON, Ohio (September 24, 2019) Locus Agricultural Solutions® (Locus AG) today announced that it is a Certified B Corporation® (B Corp™), a testament to the company’s commitment to balance profit and purpose and help build a more inclusive and sustainable economy.

Administered by the non-profit B Lab, this certification means that Locus AG meets the highest standards of social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability. This is the only certification that measures a company’s entire social and environmental performance. The rigorous assessment reviewed how Locus AG’s operations and business model impact its workers, community, environment and customers.

“We are incredibly proud to be a Certified B Corp, and based on our research, we believe we are the only ag input company across North America, Europe and Asia to have this certification,” said Andy Lefkowitz, the company’s chairman and an Entrepreneur of the Year® regional finalist. “Being a B Corp is a natural fit given that Locus AG is on a mission to help solve two global challenges: reversing climate change and sustainably increasing our food supply.”

Locus AG is the only company in the world providing fresh, non-GMO and organic-certified “probiotic” solutions that are proven to dramatically improve soil health, optimize crop yields, enhance plant and turf quality, sequester record amounts of carbon and reduce users’ environmental impact. The products are commercialized under Rhizolizer® for agricultural and reforestation use, and Terradigm for use in professional turf and landscaping. A residential home care product is now in development.

Third-party tests and verified field trials across the country have found that Locus AG’s cold-chain, customized soil amendments (“probiotics”) boost plant productivity by up to 43% and soils’ ability to sequester up to 8.6 additional metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalents per acre annually when compared to grower practices.

“We believe that businesses can positively impact their employees, communities and the environment, and becoming a certified B Corp creates new opportunities to engage with customers, partners and investors that share these same values,” Lefkowitz said.

Businesses in all industries recognize the need to have a purpose beyond maximizing shareholder returns. Last month, the Business Roundtable issued a new Statement on the Purpose of a Corporation signed by 181 CEOs stating that, “Each of our stakeholders is essential. We commit to deliver value to all of them, for the future success of our companies, our communities and our country.”
